Late end of the war in Alsace in February 1945 (lecture)

French and American troops conquered Mulhouse and Strasbourg as early as November 1944, but Generals de Lattre de Tassigny and Leclerc did not advance towards each other. This allowed the German bridgehead near Colmar, the "Poche de Colmar", to hold, which led to heavy losses. American bombers destroyed numerous villages to pave the way to the Rhine for the Allies.
