Support for People with Dementia

In honor of “Dementia Awareness Week,” the city’s Senior Citizens’ Office, in collaboration with the Care Support Center, is hosting an informational event on support services for people with dementia. Schedule: 2:00 p.m.: Counselor Elisabeth Schauer provides an overview of support services for people with dementia. 3:00 p.m.: Anja Schwab, director of the Senior Citizens’ Office, will present helpful technology for people with dementia to use at home. Both presentations will take place in the large conference room of the town hall in Stühlinger (existing building). The event is accessible to people with disabilities.

Wherever people come together, we may encounter the issue of dementia. The disease has become a part of our society; in Baden-Württemberg alone, about 220,000 people are living with dementia. The Freiburg Dementia Network has been working for years to raise public awareness about dementia. Among other initiatives, it organizes a week of activities centered around “World Alzheimer’s Day,” which takes place every year on September 21.

This week encourages us to continue helping people with dementia actively participate in social life. After all, many challenges are easier to overcome together than alone.

During Dementia Week, from Monday, September 21, through Sunday, September 27, events will take place throughout Freiburg.
